They were the second group of the British Invasion on the Ed Sullivan Show. the Dave Clark Five were the the first band to tour the U.S. they had 17 records in the Top 40 of the U.S. charts. In 1965 the band released their own film,Catch us if you can. Dave Clark was the bands manager and executive producer,he held all the rights to his music and songs and also has the rights to the 1960's pop series Ready Steady Go!.Between 1978 and 1993 none of their music was available to be purchased in any commercial format,As rights holder Clark decided to license the bands recordings. In 1993, a single Cd"Glad All Over Again" was produced by Dave Clark himself in Britain. After a 1987 deal with the Disney channel to re-broadcast the 1960's tv show Ready Steady Go!Dave also made a deal with Hollywood Records to issue in 1993 a double Cd" History of the Dave Clark Five". At the time Hollywood needed product and so met Clark's demand for a larger-than-usual advance. The deal also included such things as getting DC5 songs into Disney movies and creating a DC5-themed Cafe.As the project lost money all other things did not go forward as planned.By this time no DC5 material was available until 2008.Because the DC 5failed to progress musically in the manner of the Beatles and the Rolling Stones, they were later dismissed as too lightweight. It took so long for the group to be voted into the rock'n'roll hall of fame that it was almost an embarrasment when they were finally inducted in 2008. By Dave keeping their records out of the stores for nearly 20 years,he diminished their value.Oldies radio programmed less of their hits,as they were not available to the stations. Also the music did not get exposed in other media like movies,tv shows, and commercials.the sales of "The History of the Dave Clark Five"were dissapointing and the project lost money.find out more about the Dave Clark Five on the Little Red Rooster Show as they will be the Artist of the Month on June the 5th. on KWMC the Mighty 1490 from 10:30AM to 12:00 noon. |
