Anton Yelchin, the Russian navigator Chekov, died last month at the young age of 27 in a tragic car accident and the original Spock, Leonard Nimoy, is also gone now, he was 83. Needless to say the movie is, rightly so, dedicated to both of them.
Justin Lin is in the Directors Chair for this one, he directed several of the Fast and Furious sagas. Start Trek BEYOND will give you the feel of watching an old Star Trek Series Episode on steriods.
We find Captain Kirk (Chris Pine) and Spock (Zachary Quinto) in a pensive mode, a midst a five year tour. Kirk is contemplating whether or not to be promoted to Vice-Admiral. He'd would much rather Spock got the job but Spock is thinking that he should run away from his human side and go back to Vulcan to start a family there.
All that is put on hold when the Enterprise get's attacked by a horde, led by Krall payed by Idris Elba. Krall blows the Enterprise to pieces, with the crew separated and stranded on an alien planet called Altamid.
