HOWDY
Well here we are looking at the month of April. I would like to first take a moment to congratulate Mr. JAVIER MARTINEZ for wining the best of the best for 2019 as the radio personality of the year MR. MARTINEZ is with the radio station K.W.M.C..IT was well deserved and Javier has been in radio for many years. Now for looking back. This month I would like to talk about my children. I have two children who live here in Del Rio and I can say with sadness they never come see me. One of them works nights and calls me on Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday never on Friday or Saturday. My daughter never calls or comes by. I have three grandchildren here in Del Rio but they never have the time to come and visit me. They never call me I have to call them. I have a son in New Braunfels Texas that just recently started talking to me again after three years or ever since his mother died. He has a son that is in his late teens and I was never around him when he was growing up. I have a son in Waco who calls me once a month just to keep in touch. My son Michael who passed away 2017 had three brothers from his moms first marriage I was around those boys while they were growing up but since Michael passed away, they have not been to my house at all. Now why have I stated all of this is to look back when I was young. I visited my mother three or four times a week. My dad and mom were divorced and both remarried but every Friday I would take my dad out to eat and then to the movies. He loved western movies as did I/ my mom was so sick the last ten years of her life that she never wanted to go out to eat or to the movies. She asks me to get her a color tv and I did. It was the first color t.v. she ever had. Her favorite singer was ELVIS PRESLEY Back in those good old days on every holiday all of my family, uncles, aunts. Cousins brothers and sisters would come to my house for the holidays. One time on the fourth of July was on a Friday and we partied to Sunday night. Lots of food music horseshoes and cards. A lot of old friends would show up and everyone was welcome. We would sit up a recliner for my mom so that when she got tired, she could rest. Things started to change when I started getting recondition from singing and started getting bookings a lot of times away from home. Then when I started recording music, I was gone a lot of times on birthdays holidays and anniversaries and such. I have to admit I was not there for my children or my wife or family. All I could see was my star over the horizon and I was determined to get it no matter the cost. One time I was set to go play some where and be gone for a week and my wife ask me what I wanted for my birthday which was in that week and like a fool I said how about a trail separation. she said or you sure that’s what you want and stupid me said yes. She asks me what can I take with me. I told her take what you want. When I came back the house was empty and there was an old fold up cot with a note on it that said you told me I could take what I wanted and I wanted it all. We love you and hope you find what you are looking for. That night I sat out on the porch and wrote the song country superstar and old McDonalds farm is not a home. That was a long time ago and now that I am an old man, I wish I could have seen and understood that family is and should be the number one priority in your life. That old saying YOU REAP WHAT YOU SOW is so true. I didn’t have time for my kids now they have no time for me. The only thing that I am thankful for is that Dalinda is here with me and helps me with things that I can no longer do by myself. In closing let me say if you have a career you are trying to achieve remember do not forget your family, they are the most important part of your life. Take them down and walk the Dora ALCALA WALKING TRAIL. take them to the whitehead museum to the winery out to Lake Amistad and so many other places here to see in my home town of Del Rio Texas. God bless. Thanks to Victor Cirilo and the Val Verde County Library. |
