 Mr. Trump repeatedly said the following: “On my first day in office there will be an Immediate Repeal and Replace of Obamacare”; “I will build a wall on the Mexico border and Mexico will pay for it”; “Isis will be defeated very quickly”; “I alone can fix it”; “It’s too much winning, winning, so much winning I can’ take it anymore”. Trump would also ban Muslims from coming to the United States. Trump made dubious claims about the crowd size at his inauguration; He also claimed that millions of votes were cast illegally; on day 44 Trump accused former President Barak Obama of criminal wiretapping; and these are just a few.
Now let’s see what the master negotiator’s first 100 days have really been like up to the 65th day. Mr. Trump loves to win. Repeal and Replace of Obamacare was a spectacular colossal failure on top of a number of failures in the first two (2) months including the travel ban that failed not once but twice. Mexico has told Mr. Trump in no uncertain terms that they will not pay for the wall. All of us know that it will not be Donald Trump who pays for a useless wall, but we, the taxpayers who will be paying for the wall. Even Republican Governors have said that there is no truth to illegal votes being cast as indicated by Mr. Trump. On who had the biggest crowd at their inauguration, only a self-centered arrogant person would care. By the way, to set the record straight, former President Barak Obama had a much larger crowd. On the wiretapping: Both the FBI director James Comey and NSA director, Adm. Michael Rogers have said there was no basis for Donald Trump’s claims to having been wiretapped by former President Barak Obama. But, addressing the House intelligence committee Mr. Comey confirmed for the first time that the agency is investigating possible collusion between the Trump campaign and Moscow to influence the outcome of the presidential election. FBI director Comey said : “I have been authorized by the Department of Justice to confirm that the FBI as part of our counter-intelligence mission, is investigating the Russian government’s efforts to interfere in the 2016 Presidential election”. He added: “and that includes investigating the nature of any links between individuals associated with Trump campaign and the Russian government and whether there was any coordination between the campaign and Russia”. Comey also said that the investigation included the possibility that criminal acts had been committed. Mr. Trump accused Germany of owing “vast sums of money to Nato”. Evidently Trump does not seem to know how Nato works. Former Trump foreign policy consultant Carter Page, Ex-campaign manager Paul Manafort and longtime Trump ally Roger Stone were scheduled to testify before the House Intelligence Committee on Tuesday, March 29th regarding their ties to Russia has now been cancelled by Republican House Intelligence Committee chairman Devin Nunes. No new date has been set, in essence blocking the committee’s work. Chairman Nunes served on Trumps national security transition team. Chairman Nunes took whatever intelligence material he had acquired to Mr. Trump before sharing it with the House intelligence committee. If you have a chairman who is interacting with the White House, sharing information with the White House, when the people around the White House are the subject of the investigation and doing it before sharing it with the committee. Is chairman Nunes hiding information from the committee and protecting the president? And then, on the 64th day, President Trump lost his first big legislative battle. Mr. “Art of the Deal” couldn’t get Trumpcare passed even though Republicans control both houses of Congress and the White House. The Republicans were forced to pull their repeal and replace of the Affordable Care Act (Obamacare) from the House floor. Republicans were forced to admit defeat as they could not gain sufficient support from their own side for their plan to overhaul US health insurance. The master negotiator had failed. Republicans who gained power by savaging Washington are in full control and cannot agree on a path forward. President Trump has left dozens of critical administration jobs unfilled, rejecting stalwart Republican applications deemed insufficiently loyal to him-and now he is decrying the disloyalty of the 20 to 30 conservative members who outmaneuvered and overpowered him on health care. After 65+ days President Trump has been ineffective, accomplished nothing, defector in chief, a pathological liar. President Trump’s Presidency is the most unstable and chaotic in American history. |
