The Education Service Center Region 15 has announced that Dr. Carlos Rios, Superintendent of the San Felipe Del Rio Consolidated Independent School District, has been named the 2019 TASB Region 15 Superintendent of the Year. Since 1984, the Superintendent of the Year (SOTY) award program has honored outstanding administrators for achievement and excellence in public school administration. “These school leaders exhibit exemplary and visionary leadership toward improving student performance”, describes the Texas Association of School Boards. “They are chosen for their strong leadership skills, dedication to improving the quality of education in their districts, and commitment to public support and involvement in education.” Education service centers across the state coordinate a regional screening of applicants who have been nominated by the board of trustees within their respective school districts. School board members who do not have superintendents nominated for the award and do not have board members on the TASB State Selection Committee serve on the regional screening committee to nominate one regional finalist. On August 23-24, Dr. Rios and other regional winners will be interviewed by the TASB State Selection Committee. Five finalists will be chosen, and will continue on to one final round of interviews. The 2019 TASB State Superintendent of the Year will be announced during the 2019 TASA/TASB Convention in Austin on September 21st. In their announcement, Education Service Center (ESC) Region 15 expressed congratulatory remarks and noted, “Dr. Rios is doing tremendous work with students, educators, parents, and the community of Del Rio. We are proud to have him represent our region." |
