Artist of the Month: John Lennon

10/8/2015

Comments

John Winston Lennon: Oct 1940 - Dec 1980 was an English singer and songwriter who rose to worldwide fame as a co-founder of the band the Beatles, the most commercially successful band in the history of popular music.

Featured 'Artist of the Month' this October is John Lennon. Out of all the Beatles, John Lennon had the most interesting and frustrating career. He had an undying love of straight-ahead rock 'n 'roll but the extremes both in his music and his life, is what made him fascinating. Where Paul McCartney was content to be a rock star, John Lennon dabbled in everything from politics to the television talk-show circuit during the 1970's. In Lennon's solo career the song "Imagine"is named No.3 on Rolling Stones Magazine all time best songs list. Lennon moved to the U.S. ln Sept, 1971 and was constantly threatened with deportation by the Nixon administration.

He believed that he was being removed because of his activism against the unpopular Vietnam War. Documents later on proved him correct. Two years after Nixon resigned in 1976, Lennon was granted permanent U.S. residency. Remembering John Lennon, Ringo recently unearthed over 250 intimate Beatles images for a book, Ringo is asking Paul McCartney, Yoko and Olivia Harrison to explore their personal photo archives for a potential follow up project. Learn more about John Lennon as KWMC "THE MIGHTY" 1490 and the Little Red Rooster will feature the life and music of John Winston Lennon. Information and facts provided by Ernest Mesta and Wendy Johnson production by Javier A. Martinez.
