From a high school dropout who gave us seven years of his music and is considered one of the most influential electric guitarist in the history of music, he is described as a "rocking powerhouse". Stevie Ray Vaughan was born in Dallas Texas and inspired by his older brother. Dropping out of school in 1971 he went to Austin Texas and in the early 60's he tried several different instruments including drums and saxophone. When his brother left home at the age of 16 Stevie's apparent obsession for the guitar caused a lack of support from his parents, so now miserable at home he took a job at a local hamburger stand, where he washed dishes and dumped trash for 70 cents an hour. After falling into a barrel of grease, he got tired of the job and quit to devote his life to music. During the early 70's Stevie attended Kimball High School, but his late night gigs contributed to neglect his studies, including music theory. He later spoke of his dislike of the school and stated that he had to get a daily note from his principal about his grooming. On and off with so many bands Stevie finally started his own band "Double Trouble" although popular in Texas they failed to gain national attention. So now booked for the Montreux Jazz Festival it didn't turn out so good the first time they played there, the set ended with boos from the audience. So now with no name, no contract, and no album Stevie was very upset, handed over his guitar and walked off stage. Finally at his peak at stardom Stevie Ray and Double Trouble went back for a second time and it was totally different. The rest is history.
