In 1969 and early 1970 and during that time, why would such great bands like Jefferson Airplane and even Santana refuse to play any concerts if they knew that a small three piece band from Texas would be the opening act. This three piece band played red-hot Texas boogie and blues, no one did it better-or has done it longer than ZZ Top.Most people will tell you that ZZ top were know as the "Moving sidewalks",that is not true It was Gibbons who played in the psychedelic blues band "The Moving Sidewalks" and then after hooking up with Frank Beard and Hill who played in the group "American Blues" did they become ZZ Top. They played their first show in February 1970.Though most U.S. record labels would not take them on, they finally recorded for London Records which was home to the Rolling Stones which was a big plus for the band. Their earliest album ZZ Top's first album came out in 1970, Rio Grande Mud 1972 which gave them a chart hit "Francene" which was also recorded in spanish and the album "Tres Hombres" from 1973 which so solidified their sound. The "Tres Hombres" album became the first in an unbroken string of eleven gold and platinum albums. To this day the little band from Texas remain of rock's most entertaining live acts. After three decades and a half ZZ Top keeps rolling on.Find out more about Texas own "The Little Band from Texas" ZZ Top as KWMC "The Mighty 1490" will feature them as Artist Of The Month on "The Little Red Rooster Show".
