A year or so ago, our world community received the news that Pope Francis was going to visit Mexico. When his itinerary was shared with the World and Mexico, it was apparent, indeed it was obvious that it would be a visit with a theme of justice, love and perseverance. Pope Francis would be going to various locales. Cities and venues where you might not expect a religious leader, a world leader to go. Mexico City where hundreds have been kidnapped, held for ransom, even killed. Chiapes where indigenos peoples have and still are being persecuted, robbed of the richness of their natural resources, and killed. Morelia in the state of Michiacan, a state greatly affected by the drug cartels. Juarez, a city of death and violence, a city where over 300 women have been killed. Pope Francis, a world religious leader who “walks the walk”, namely “walking in the footsteps of Jesus”. |
