 The Del Rio’s Bobcat Alumni is proud to announce the return visit of the award winning Texas State University’s Mariachi Band to Del Rio. This scholarship concert will be held at the Paul Poag Theatre on Tuesday, December 18, 2018 at 7:00 pm. This is the final stop of their “Merry-Achi” Christmas Show. Enjoy traditional and new Mariachi music along with holiday music. The band is composed of music students from Texas State University, most of them music majors.
This year’s concert will be a homecoming for Karen Rios from Del Rio who forms part of the Mariachi Nueva Generacion (New Generation). Karen, a sophomore music education major, plays the trumpet. Since its creation in 1997, Mariachi Nueva Generacion has established itself as one of the leading university mariachi groups in Texas and the winner of multiple Mariachi Vargas Extravaganza Competitions. This is the Del Rio alumni’s opportunity to share the pride and love we have for our alma mater, Texas State. Admission to the concert will benefit the local chapter of the Texas State Alumni Association scholarship program. Tickets are available on line through paulpoagevents.com.
